Homemade Parachutes is a New Orleans collective exploring life as art with outrageous interactive installations. We are currently reconstructing an old molasses factory into an aquatic wonderland, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible within a crumbling industrial space. The installation is a satellite of the Prospect 1 endeavor.
Homemade Parachutes strive to capture the full engagement of their audience through the creation of interactive site-specific installations throughout the community.
Evoking hope and a sense of utility amid settings where there is routinely none, it is not chance that finds Homemade Parachutes time and again inclined to those most blighted and forgotten of spaces.
Seeking to reinvigorate and harness their surrounding environment and materials available to the fullest extent, the venues in themselves have been diverse - alike only in their unconventionality. From the tunneled mazes of the former Artful Dodger home to a firehouse, then into the trees, winding finally through the streets of St. Roch and then back again.
